Livin’ the Rye Life!

Sound the Tater Horn! Nothing assembles the tater team better than a great bourbon release. OK, so this was rye whiskey, but let’s not get technical! Make it a double barrel release, throw in a free tasting and some great prizes, and you’ve got yourself a classic bourbon nerdfest!

Taters kicked off the month of August at Belmont Beverage on North Anthony Road. This release featured TWO cask strength rye whiskeys from Knob Creek. Aged approximately 6 years, each barrel comes with its own distinct rye spice profile. And each its own Tater flare!

Knob Creek Rye Pick: Don't Worry, They're Taters

Barreled on 9/14/2016 this bottle pays homage to everyone's favorite billboard at Schitt's Creek. This bottle features the more classic beam rye profile with earthy notes and “nutty spice” to match its tater tribute.

Knob Creek Rye Pick: Tater Rye Life

Barreled on 4/18/2016, you'll be livin' the rye life with this bottle. This bottle features a more oily mouthfeel on the palate, which is soon engulfed by the bold rye spices with notes of woody citrus. A toast to the Champagne of…Whiskeys!

Attendees had a chance to taste both bottles and take home their favorite. Or both!

A true bourbon nerdfest wouldn’t be complete without the chance to take home a fancy schmancy status bottle. How does a 17 year Old Fitz sound? Yeah, we thought that would do the trick. And while that may have been the headliner, Taters and Belmont held drawings every 15 minutes for an additional dozen bottles plus a Taters Choice Barrel Club membership and a $1K donation to a charity of the winner’s choice. Tater Michael Lowe passed on a chance to take a winning bottle in order to donate to Humane Fort Wayne; proving once again that the bourbon community is one of the most generous ones around!

We capped off the festivities with our right to buy drawing for the 17 year Old Fitz. Released earlier this spring by Heaven Hill, this bottle has quickly ascended as one of the most highly sought bottles around. Or NOT around to be more precise! Tater Erik Bender took home the grand prize…and a big smile to boot.

Keep an eye out for our next Taters event which will be sure to check all the boxes. In the meantime, you can view our photos of the release by the great Matt Hakey!
