Tater Tuesday - Community Harvest Food Bank

When we formed Taters, Inc. last year it was certainly with an eye towards helping our members use the power of shared spirits to help give back to the community. We are proud to say that Taters continue to prove that the bourbon community is one of the most generous ones around!

Last winter our Spirit of Giving event was to be the culmination of Taters, Inc.’s efforts to give back during the winter season - when the spirit of giving is at its peak. In December, the Tater Board reimagined the Advent Calendar as one that could provide a backdrop for sharing bourbon samples with Taters who donated in support of our cause. And in true Tater spirit, the community stepped up. As it turned out, that was just the beginning. Next followed our Spirit of Giving event.

Taters raised over $20,000 for our local nonprofits. On Tuesday May 31st we had a chance to celebrate with one of the recipients - Community Harvest Food Bank.

Several of our Taters were treated to a tour of the facility by President and CEO, Carmen Cumberland. Here’s a bit of what she had to say:

“Your spirits sure do raise our spirits! We like to say we do food and we do it well. But it’s only because of community supporters like Taters and all of the generous donors who make life better for folks we see at the food bank every day. This $5,000 donation has a huge impact here, and will directly put meals into the hands of people who need them most. That’s benefiting people who had the tough choice to make between food and other essentials. Because of this gift, they can now get gas to go to work, pay a medical expense, or make their housing payment. But even beyond that, your time spent volunteering here helped our clients know how much people care about them! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

We hope that this was just the beginning of our Tater Tuesdays - days when Taters can get together to continue the mission of Taters, Inc.: to harness the enthusiasm and generosity of the bourbon world for the greater good of the community. Cheers, Taters!

After the tour we took advantage of the many volunteer opportunities available - and needed - at the food bank. We hope you enjoy some shots of the action!
