We are excited to announce that Taters, Inc. has partnered with Belmont Beverage and Tolon Restaurant to select a Hugh Hamer Double Oaked Single Barrel Bourbon from West Fork Whiskey Company!

Hugh and Thomas Hamer bought Spring Mill from Thomas and Cuthbert Bullit in 1825. For years, the Hamer Family operated a mill in Lawrence County, IN, distilling excess corn and selling it to whiskey lovers as far south as New Orleans. Once lost in the sands of time, Old Hamer branded whiskey is ready to enjoy again.

The Hugh Hamer line of Old Hamer Straight Whiskey focuses on barrel finishing and extended flavors contributed during secondary aging.

The selection team consisting of Brok Lahrmann, Adam Sauerland, Aaron Schlib, Thomas Bucher, Michael Barranda, Nicky Nolot, and Matt Nolot gathered at Tolon Restaurant in Downtown Fort Wayne to select a barrel from offerings of both the Double Oaked and Port finishes. As a special bonus from this auction event item, the guests enjoyed some of Tolon’s amazing
farm-to-table small plates.

After tasting the offerings, all barreled in August 2017 and ranging from 114-120 proof, we chose Double Oak Barrel BD01 as it carried waves of sweet caramel and char while maintaining a fruity cinnamon spice that was not overpowering. Meanwhile the double-oaked comes through with a long-lasting finish. All three barrels of whiskey (plus the three port finishes) would have made great selections, but barrel BD01 reigned supreme.

* * * IT’S HAMER TIME * * *

Our Hugh Hamer was bottled at 103 proof and arrived ready to dance on the shelves! An M.C. Hammer tribute seemed overwhelmingly fitting. But how do we pay Tater homage to such a nostalgic legend? Following some serious deliberations we felt that it was appropriate to pull out all of the stops to give this bottle the tatering that it deserved. One thing we knew was that this bottle required some serious moves!

Since we were turning back the clock on this bottle we went full-tater searching the ends of the Earth for good old fashioned magic motion stickers. The result is a Taters-worthy Hamer Time motion sticker unlike anything we’ve ever seen - on a bourbon bottle or not. And given the lengths we went to get this done, you may never see it again. We’re confident that this Hugh Hamer is a unique and one of a kind experience that any Tater would be happy to add to their collection!
